Alaturka
yalnız
second CD
Beau Bledsoe - guitar/oud
Rich Wheeler - tenor sax
Jeff Harshbarger- bass
Brandon Draper- percussion
Alaturka was formed in 2009 with the vision of creating an equal “auditory handshake” between two musical cultures, American jazz and Turkish classical music. Founder and director Beau Bledsoe joined with Istanbul darbuka virtuoso Sait Arat and two of Kansas City’s most acclaimed jazz musicians, Rich Wheeler and Jeff Harshbarger, to form a quartet in which both cultures are treated with equal respect. Yalniz emphasizes the Turkish side of the Turkish-jazz equation. Having already proven that their concept work with their dbut release Tamam Abi, the members of Alaturka seems less intent on demonstrating their jazz chops than on developing new textures.

Victoria Botero / Beau Bledsoe
Un ramo de voz
debut CD
Victoria Botero - soprano
Beau Bledsoe - guitar
How does an iconic song like Gretchen am Spinnrade change when you take the collaborative instrument from piano to guitar? And how does a tango, a genre not typically associated with a classical recital, connect when juxtaposed with Schubert and Britten? These are the questions that we have explored by playing with arrangements, timbre, color and phrasing. We are pleased to offer this bouquet of songs, presenting classical, folk and popular repertoire arranged for voice and guitar.

Granner Bledsoe Duo Departure
www.grannerbledsoe.com
Nathan and Beau combined all that they learned about life, music, and people into a painstakingly crafted recording, ‘Departure’. A beautiful album of varied and highly emotive music where one travels from the evocative art of Villa-Lobos into the austere sexuality of John Dowland, until finally being snapped into the fever-pitched passion of traditional Flamenco. There's also a little southern comfort thrown in for good measure!

Formed in 1999, this fiery ensemble has created a fresh and continually growing body of original compositions and arrangements equally suited for the dance hall or the concert stage. While evoking an undoubtedly Argentine sentiment with classics from the "Golden Age", they also create new, innovative works with a timeless sense of beauty. Tango Lorca plays their music with a deep understanding of tradition as well as an obsessive desire to evolve the art form to new plateaus

Granner Bledsoe Duo Winterreise
www.grannerbledsoe.com
Winterreise was Schubert’s last collection of lieder composed before his death in1828, consisting of twenty four songs of despair and unrequited love. It is one of the most heart wrenching moments of the lied tradition. The transcription of the piano part to the guitar adds a new intimacy to these works but remains historically relevant to Schubert lifelong relationship with the guitar. Lacking a piano through much of his career, Schubert originally composed many of his songs on guitar and published them with piano and alternate guitar accompaniments. The original keys and general transparency of many of his songs are largely idiomatic to the guitar and utilize similar accompaniment figures used by his friend Giullani.
Listening to Giuliani’s Sei Cavatine, it become immediately apparent that he was an avid fan of Italian opera. Often his many solo guitar compositions allude to the operatic devises of the time. These songs were admiringly set in the highly popular style of Gioacchino Rossini and set by one of the most famous Italian librettists of the time, Pietro Metastasio. Each song in this collection seems to be an aria unto itself from a non-existing opera with simplistic guitar accompaniment that mimics the operatic orchestration of Giuliani’s era.
